Trotman Continues to Guide and Inspire Young Minority Swimmers

In 2014, Robert Trotman was awarded the USA Swimming Diversity and Inclusion award for his extensive support and continual introduction of the sport of swimming to underrepresented groups.

Multicultural Heroes: Coach Robert Trotman

Motivation and dedication are not unfamiliar words to anyone looking to describe swim coaches. Coaches like Pete Morgan, Teri McKeever and the late legend Peter Daland are well-known for their passion, persistence and impact. Other names come up when we talk about coaching contributions to the sport and few are more revered than 2014 Diversity and Inclusion Award recipient, Coach Robert Trotman.

A Coach For Success In the Pool And in Life

Under his driven approach, Mr. Trotman's swimmers, most of whom had not been in a pool before he took them under his wing, routinely outpace their more affluent competitors in town, county and state meets.

Swim Club Gives Minorities Start

Lennitt Bligen is one of the top swimmers in the CHSAA. The 5-10 Holy Trinity junior is a star in the 200-yard freestyle (he owns the school record) and the 100 breaststroke. He also happens to be black - a minority in a sport where affluent, mostly white teenagers thrive.
